Welcome and please do make yourself at home.
I’m trying to think of a few things that I would want to know were I staying here.
Around the house
The bed sheets are clean and fresh. Hopefully I’ve also remembered to leave you a couple of fresh towels at the end of the bed. If not, you can find them in the laundry cupboard.
The coffee machine has been cleaned! There’s some recently roasted beans from Campos and they’re pretty decent so feel free to help yourself to what’s left of them.
The study is easily the most cluttered room in the house and should best be avoided but if you fancy nabbing a bottle or two of wine then that’s where you’ll find them. Feel free to open up a couple, but do please leave the 21 Gables Cab Sav from South Africa (it’s the only one I have!)
Outside you’ll find three bins. The yellow is for mixed recycling, the green is for organic waste and the red one is general waste. Pop the bins out on the street on Tuesday evening as council comes to collect the rubbish on Wednesday mornings. The red bin goes out each week and the green and yellow ones are on alternating weeks. Copy what the neighbours do!
The dishwasher tablets are underneath the kitchen sink.
You might notice that there’s a few video cameras around – don’t worry, they’re all outside the house 🙂
Feel free to use the BBQ. It uses lump charcoal and I’m all out though so you’ll need to grab a bag from either Bunnings Warehouse in Alexandria or from the Meat Emporium, also in Alexandria. Don’t use charcoal briquettes, it won’t really work well.
The internet
There are two wifi networks, a 2.4Ghz one called Enterprise and a 5Ghz one called Starfleet. The password for both is dynamicdaisy193.
Should you have any difficulties with the internet then it’s probably the router. You can find that in the study underneath the drawer in the corner. The router is the Netgear device with the three antennae. There’s a power switch at the back of it – simply turn it off for a second or two and then turn it back on. Everything should come good after a couple of minutes.
Very rarely the Telstra Gateway might be the culprit. It’s the black device next to the router and you can turn that on and off also (if don’t so, I would also turn the router on and off at the same time).
The TV
The TV (and soundbar) can be controlled from the one LG remote. There’s the usual free-to-air TV but there’s also Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney+. There are dedicated buttons for Netflix and Amazon Prime on the remote but you’ll need to press the Home button and choose the Disney+ app from the list to get it to run.
Occasionally, the soundbar will lose wireless connectivity with the subwoofer. You’ll be able to hear when this happens. Most of the time it comes back within 30 seconds but if it doesn’t then the easiest way to fix it is just to turn the TV/Soundbar off with the remote and start it again after a few seconds.
The birds
Thank you very much for feeding them. Nai would’ve left instructions with Helen as to how to feed them. If anything is unclear please do reach out to Nai.
Groceries
There are a few options within easy walking distance. The closest is the IGA, it’s just around the corner towards Stanmore train station. They’re a local grocer who will carry most things. Across the road from the grocer is a bottleshop.
If you’re after harder to find gourmet goodies then head over to the other side of Stanmore station and check out Tenth Muse. They’ve got some really great stuff.
The bigger supermarkets are located in the neighbouring suburbs of Marrickville and Leichardt. There you’ll find Woolworths, Coles, Aldi and Harris Farm Markets as well as specialty stores like butchers, bakeries, fruit n veggie stores, etc.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner
Fancy eating out? Then taking a stroll up towards Enmore road is definitely recommended! Here you’ll find a bunch of different restaurants/cafes/bars. If you keep walking down Enmore Rd you’ll eventually find yourself on King street where there are also lots of restaurants/cafes/bars.
Heading the other direction, along Stanmore Road is the suburb of Petersham. Here you’ll find really great Portuguese and a few other fab places to eat. Check out both New Canterbury Road (that’s what Stanmore Road is called in Petersham) for Frango’s Chicken and also Audley Street for a great little Japanese local called Kubota.
Craving some of the world’s best Vietnamese cuisine? Head over to Marrickville.
Also check out my post about cafes in the Inner West of Sydney.
If you’re after delivery, Stanmore is well serviced by Uber Eats, Deliveroo, Door Dash and Menulog.
Want a fine dining experience that’s really very good? Make a booking with Sixpenny over on the other side of the station. Not cheap. Worth it though.
Heading into the city?
We hope you enjoy your stay 🙂
